Escentric Molecule: the perfume that’s not a perfume at all. Curious?
I have been for a while now after I practically chased a woman down Bourke St here in Melbourne to find out what perfume she was wearing. She explained it was a ‘molecule’ and not a perfume at all, but that I should go to Mecca Cosmetica where they’d give me a sample. I still remember the story she told me about how she discovered it:
‘I work in Myer and our floor manager wears this. People always ask her what she’s wearing and she sends them to see me at Mecca, the only place you can buy it in Australia. I can’t tell you how many people have come in here telling me she sent them. Everyone wants to know about it.’
But why I hear you ask? How about we let Escentric Molecule’s explain:
“Escentric Molecules owes its existence to an aroma-molecule that does not exist in nature. Iso E Super was created in a laboratory at IFF in 1973. It remained unknown outside the world of perfumery until the launch of Escentric Molecules, though its elusive presence hovers at relatively low concentrations in the background of many fragrances for both men and women. It contains no fragrant ingredients other than the aroma-molecule, pure and singular. This is fragrance at its most minimal, its most pure.”
Containing a minimal fragrance, it will smell different for everyone who wears it. Apparently its so seductive because it mixes with your natural pheremones to create a fragrance totally complimentary and unique to you. What do I smell like? I’ve been told it smells woody with grassy notes. Which is interesting because I just love scents like mimosa and honey.
In a way its impossible to review because it smells different on everyone who wears it. How could you possibly describe the scent? What I can say is that its more like an experience. And without fail whenever I wear it, someone asks me what perfume I’m wearing. I love it.
