White in winter isn’t exactly revelatory now is it? But how many of you actually wear, well, white? I love cream, there’s something about the yellow undertone that’s warming and it looks great with navy, tan, black, red – basically it complements most colours. But white? A little bit more tricky in my opinion.
I wondered how I’d go with this Feathers Boutique ‘Mauritz’ jacket that was sent my way recently. Long term readers (hello, I know who you are!) will recognise Feathers as I’ve been wearing and working with them for years. Here’s just one example of how I’ve styled their classic pieces over the many years I’ve been wearing the label. Ok here’s one more because I’ve now fallen down memory lane and am enjoying finding all these old lewks.
I digress, white in winter isn’t new, but I think it’s just all about how you style it. Even though this bouclé jacket has a luxe silver thread running through it, I found pairing it with jeans was the easiest solution. I tried it with (many) of the dresses I own but somehow I couldn’t make it work. I’m sure there’s a way to wear it with a dress so for the sake of my fashun credentials I’ll keep trying on that front.
Another key detail I found while researching white jackets specifically, is the more structured the better. The shoulders on this Feathers number are fabulous, as are the gold buttons and sharp lapels. I think unless you want to veer into sports luxe territory, white looks best for winter in a structured silhouette. In every picture I found of Bianca Jagger wearing her signature white suits, they were structured and sharp. There’s a reason that woman’s style is still relevant all these years later and I’m sure it’s because of the timeless shape of her clothes.
So there you have it, a lovely foray into winter whites for me! Are you wearing white in winter?
