Just when you think Zimmermann can’t top a previous collection, Fall Ready-To-Wear 2019 comes along. And the inspiration? None other than Nancy Wake, a New Zealand born secret agent for the French Resistance during WWII.
As explained in the show notes, the Zimmermann sisters were inspired by Wake’s story because they “loved the idea of such a feminine, skillful, and selfless figure—a woman who helped people in the most difficult of circumstances.”
Imagining just what Wake might have worn as a modern day woman living a life of subterfuge, Zimmermann presented leather coats with high waisted pants, detailed and layered frocks with trademark frills and corsetry accessorised with extra wide snakeskin belts and leather berets. Perfect for secreting away notes written in invisible ink no?
The internet is naturally going nuts about it and I foresee many a highstreet knock off coming our way in the not too distant future. That seems to be the sad reality of fast fashion in 2019. In the meantime, behold the beauty that is this RTW 2019 collection.
