Lunch.
And a long one at that. Is there a better way to spend an afternoon? Under a canopy of grape vines in the south of France perhaps but let’s be real, you can only do that every other day of the week. Closer to home, The Sofitel here in Melbourne are encouraging people to go beyond MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art exhibition and immerse yourself in edible works of art. They’ve been in partnership with the NGV for more than 20 years and to celebrate have cooked up quite a special offering.
Paying tribute to key pieces in the exhibition such as Andy Warhol’s ‘Marilyn Monroe,’ 1967, you’ll find an ice-cream sundae in her namesake, complete with saffron fairy floss the colour of her hair. You can take a bite out of the big apple with the Lower East Side bagel, The Reuben or Clam Chowder and sip on a Cosmo while you imagine yourself on a New York high-rise. I chose the long island ice-tea to take in the views of Melbourne 35 floors up and it wasn’t that far off a similar experience I had once in New York.
In any case it’s a delightful way to spend an afternoon après a visit to the exhibition.
