Without a doubt one of the shows everyone looks forward to during fashion week is the National Graduate Showcase. The best of the best graduating fashion students from around Australia get a chance to display their work on the runway, and what a spectacle it was.
The collection that had everyone talking, was that of Xiangqiao Sheng from RMIT who also closed the show. Tinsel dresses and a model carrying a mirror mosaic snake was the stuff you’d see at home during London fashion week but here were here creations showing on the VAMFF runway.
It’s a big deal for the students selected as many of them go on to big things. I featured Nixi Killick back in 2013 and noticed her sitting front row at this parade. Her label has world wide recognition now, with other students from previous years being based in Paris or working for the likes of Josh Goot.
This years line up were:
Isabella Raco, Whitehouse Institute of Design, VIC
Lisa Liu, University of Technology Sydney, NSW
Lucie Martyr, University of Technology Sydney, NSW
Lucy Dickinson, RMIT, VIC
Madeleine Jost, RMIT, VIC
Mikala Tavener Hanks, University of Technology Sydney, NSW

So there you go, a list of the designers you’ll be wearing in the not-to-distant-future!
