We’ve had a long summer here in Oz, just last week it was above 30 celsius and we’re well and truly into Autumn. Not that anyones complaining, who wouldn’t want to get around in a t-shirt for almost six months of the year?
It does kind of throw you wardrobe out of whack, but if there’s one thing Melburnians have become expert at, it’s how to layer for the weather. You see it time and time again on the streets – an outfit perfectly fashionable but adapted for the weather. I spent the christmas and new year period in Sydney which was hot, humid— reaching peak stickiness by 10am… everyday. After packing a suitcase full of jeans, tops, skirts, jackets (read: layers) I discovered fairly quickly that all I needed was shorts and a t-shirt or a summer dress. So one, or perhaps two items of clothing at most.
The Melburnian in me silently screamed getting dressed in the morning, in the main part because I found wearing one single item of clothing saaaaah boring. And it hit me in that sticky moment, staring down the barrel of leaving the house looking ‘basic‘ that Melbourne is considered Australia’s fashion capital because we just wear more clothes on a daily basis. There’s only so much you can do with shorts and a tshirt, but jeans, boots, a tee, sweater, jacket and then accessories? Winner winner chicken dinner.
So I’m looking forward to an autumn vibe and piling on the clothes, I’ve got this cities reputation to uphold after all 😉
