What era of fashion most inspires you? Are you a 50s full skirt gal, or perhaps you like the 90s grunge revival of Doc Martin’s and velvet chokers. I do love the 70s for a whole range of reasons – Yves Saint Laurent launched Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche in Paris, Helmet Newton was at this peak and well there was disco, disco, disco of course!
Many designers took their cues from 1930s silhouettes, which you can see in Laura Ashley, Biba and Ossie Clark. So in a way it’s the perfect blend of nostalgia for a soft feminine silhouette, mixed with 70s bonhomie and a large dose on rock n roll.
There’s a lot to love and while it’s not practical to dress in actual clothes from the 70s every day, you can certainly find inspo in pieces with modern fabrication that have looked to the past for the style. That’s what I try to do anyhow!
