What a cracking start to the 2016 Spring Racing Carnival!
It was a typical freezing Melbourne day for an outdoor soiree (of course!) but that didn’t stop plenty of bright young things sparkle in the Yellowglen Terrace on the lawns at Flemington.
The sparkling wines were delightful and, just when I thought my toes were going to freeze, I slung back a ‘Sparkling Gin Gin’ which warmed me up no end.
This year illustrator Chantel de Sousa will be doing live portrait drawings of guests in their stylish racing outfits and their now famous selfie hub will this year feature a pastel mural wall of paper flowers by Melbourne florist Tillda Flowers. Guests will be able to have Boomerang ‘selfies’ taken with mounted cameras, which they can post straight to their social media platforms because if it’s not on Instagram, did it really happen?
I was graciously dressed by milliner Brett Morley who between you, me and the gatepost, is one of Australia’s best milliners. The way he works lace and hand-cut, feather flowers is a feat of the imagination, and I felt privileged to be able to wear one of his creations. I paired it with a vintage dress and jewellery, topped off with a pair of gold, lizard Michael Kors heels. Miss Fox Melbourne are responsible for my manicure and I like the reverse french idea with dark red tips – made plenty of people look twice!
What’s wonderful about this enclosure is this VIP experience is available for all general admission racegoers and will be open to all ticket holders on the following race days:
• Yellowglen #TurnbullStakes Day – Sunday 2 October
• AAMI Victoria #DerbyDay – Saturday 29 October
• #EmiratesMelbourneCup Day – Tuesday 1 November
• Crown #OaksDay – Thursday 3 November
• #EmiratesStakes Day – Saturday 5 November
Giddy up!
