So many DIY projects happened before I gave birth and it’s only now that I’ve had the time to share them with you.
You’ve seen the first post about how I decorated the nursery, well this is what happened to the other half. I got quite busy ‘nesting’ before the baby arrived and made all these cushions (except the little star, that’s from good old Kmart) and these Miffy prints.
Trawling Pinterest one day I happened upon a website that provides high res images so you can make your own colouring books. I’m sure it’s going to come in handy for years to come, but in this instance I’ve used some of the images of Miffy to create these prints for the walls. I just used the ink drop function in Photoshop to ‘colour’ them in with the colours I wanted to use.
One part of the nursery that I wasn’t able to change was our fold down couch, which was a hangover from the room previously being used for guests. We decided to keep it because no doubt we’ll still be having family and friends to stay, all it meant was that I had to work with the grey/blue colour for the rest of the nursery.
Making the prints was easy, and all I did was take a swatch of the couch fabric with me to Spotlight and then selected these various fabrics. Whether or not you can sew, making cushions is super easy because generally you’re sewing up a circle or a square. I got a bit fancy with the heart and the trimmings, but made all of these in one afternoon. All of the fabric and linings cost me about $60 and I still have left overs with which I’m going to make a fitted sheet for her cot.
I’m a big fan of DIY, in the main part so that you have something that no one else will have and that’s tailored exactly to your taste. I see the nursery as a continual work in progress, but this little exercise has been a super fun way of starting out.
