Last week, I was chatting to a friend who told me they didn’t shop online because they couldn’t try the clothes they fancied on. ‘Is that the only reason why?’ I enquired, staggered that, in this day and age, a digital change-room could still conceivably be a reason for holding someone back.
As it turns out, after further chat, it was more fear of the unknown rather than whether or not the chosen pieces of clothing would fit. It took me back to when I started shopping online, waaaay back in 2003, when a friend introduced me to eBay.
I was skeptical, but the thing that ultimately convinced me was the ability to browse clothing and accessories from international sellers that you simply couldn’t buy at bricks and mortar shops here in Oz.
I remember buying a vintage Christian Dior jacket that I still wear today, and the accompanying thrill of securing an awesome bargain without having to leave the house and traipse around town.
Fast forward 12 years and these days you can shop for pretty much anything, from any corner of the globe and have it on your doorstep the same week.
If I have a Friday night in, I choose to spend it shopping online. Not necessarily going on some massive spree, but just looking around, making wish lists and getting inspiration for writing the blog and outfits I can put together myself.
It’s like going on a round-the-world trip from the comfort of my couch, wine in hand never knowing what corner of the globe I’ll end up in – my kind of shopping!
