As the sun gathers strength, the pollen count rises, causing both delight and anguish for hay-fever sufferers (like me!), beautiful blooms abound on every street-corner and our wardrobes change too.
Throwing off the coats, hats and gloves is gleefully liberating – specially in Oz with our beach culture – but, as well as this annual celebration of the coming warm weather, it’s worthwhile to consider some discipline in a spring/ summer update that complements what’s in your wardrobe.
By all means, be delighted at the passing of a dire, cold, dark winter, like the one we’ve just had here in Melbourne, but its best to temper it with some cold, hard, fashion-calculating nous.
Everything I’m wearing is new-season, but fits my existing wardrobe perfectly. It’s something that took me years to learn, particularly in my early 20s when it was all about brash statement pieces. I developed a ‘revolving door’ wardrobe, which on one hand was fabulous because there was always something new, but it did make it difficult to wear things together, so I was always recycling clothes.
These days I still own the statement pieces, but pepper them with pieces like skinny-jeans, ankle-boots and simple blouses that can be chopped and changed depending on mood, and of course the weather.
I love this Chicwish.com cotton blouse for example, and it’s not maternity so you can all go out and shop for it whether you’re sporting a bump or not. I’m starting to enjoy the challenge of finding awesome non-maternity clothes, kind of feels like it serves two purposes.
And two purposes is always better than one when it comes to canny fashion shopping, don’t you think?
