Right in the heart of the Yarra Valley, you’ll find Balgownie Estate nestled among acres of vineyards. Not just a cellar door however, Balgownie offers resort style accommodation and a day spa to-boot. The spa wasn’t on my agenda for this trip, sadly, but the Privilege Spa Suite where we stayed has it’s own full size spa bath, free wi-fi, balcony and marble kitchen so, really, there was no need to leave the room!
We did venture out however, to walk around the property through cow paddocks and vineyards, ending at the cellar door (how convenient) where you can then sample Balgownie’s finest wines. There’s an extensive list of limited release delicious varieties available for purchase for special occasions, but you really can’t go past the flagship Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Estate Shiraz from their original 40-year-old Bendigo vines. Delicious!
