Clean your face with charcoal. Seems a little bit odd yes?!
The latest offering from Biore comes in the form of a range based on natural charcoal in cleansers and masks. The idea derives from charcoal’s ability to draw out impurities and trap them. I am completely simplifying the science here, but after a quick whip around the internet I came to understand that charcoal is indeed used in filtration processes and medicine. The most official source I could find was from The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations so if you want to learn more about charcoal, take a look.
I digress, I gave the Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask and Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser a go to quite surprising and pleasant results. In a nutshell you wet your face, apply the mask that automatically heats on contact with water and massage into the skin.
It feels lovely, just like a treatment you might experience in a spa. The mask doesn’t set, it remains wet and is intended to stay on the skin for about a minute.
Then I used the cleanser to wash it off and was left with a clean, tingly feeling on my skin. I really enjoyed the result, no tightness, no sensitivity and I did have a blemish at the time of using the product that had noticeably improved the following day.
After that I thought I’d try another trend in the beauty industry at the moment in the form of hyaluronic acid. Say what?!
Hyaluronan or hyaluronic acid is a molecule distributed widely throughout connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. It can attract 1000 times its weight in water and is commonly used to treat skin conditions, dry eyes and joint pain.
The beauty industry has caught on and is now using it in moisturisers with the idea that you can ‘lock in’ moisture and with prolonged use can treat dehydrated skin.
So does it work? Well, I can tell you that the Indeed Labs Hyaluron Moisture Jelly absorbs immediately, produced no sensitivity and felt great. Having not used these products long term I can’t say I’ve seen any change in my skin. I don’t have dry skin, sometimes it can be dehydrated but you could just drink a butt load of water to fix that!
I’d say that this is a product that needs to be used for at least a month to see a difference, or if you work in an industry where your skin is exposed to constant dehydration. Think outdoors, or if you do a lot of flying.
So there you go folks: charcoal and hyaluronic acid is where it’s at in the beauty industry and you heard it here first!
Would you try it?
