Just in case you hadn’t had enough fashion week with VAMFF behind us, it’s now Australian fashion week, other wise known as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia or, MBFWA. Phew!
I’ll be bringing you my high lights this year, as opposed to every single parade, but if you’d like to see more their website has really fabulous coverage.
Gail Sorronda kicked off the second day of the week with a collection inspired by none other than Disney’s The Little Mermaid. This was presented in subtle details and colours right through to actual digital prints of Arial herself. Vogue revealed earlier in the week:
“Designer Gail Sorronda will be returning to Australian fashion week with a bang this week to present her spring/summer ’15 collection, Mermaids Exist: As Above / So Below.
As the name suggest, it was inspired by Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which will be revived by Sofia Coppola in a live action film, slated for a 2015 release. This is Disney’s first official fashion collaboration for The Little Mermaid.”
If I’d not known this I most probably would have sat front row with a ‘What the?’ face, not that fantasy or dream like themes are new for Sorronda with previous collections based gothic clowns and honey bees.
