If there is one thing that I love in my beauty routine, it’s cleansing. I’ve spoken about various products that I use before, and I’m also not immune to trying out all manner of treatments in pursuit of a sparkling visage.
Two things came across my desk in January that piqued my cleanliness interest: the Oral B Black 7000 electric toothbrush and a microdermabrasion and neoOxygen facial at neoSkin.
The Oral B Black 7000 is what I would term EPIC when it comes to electric toothbrushes. It even comes with its own silicone carry case. Seriously.
I’ve tried DIY whitening products before (White Glo mouth guards and Crest whitening strips) and have used an electric toothbrush for about 2 years but didn’t really think that it was the device that contributed to having white teeth.
With seven independent functions and up to 800 brush movements per second I was a little skeptical about what it would do for my mouth- was I brushing my teeth or blasting them? Would it whiten them?
Well in short, it has. Much to my amazement, after using it for about two months I’ve seen a noticeable difference in the whiteness of my teeth. There are six brushing modes: daily clean, deep clean, whitening, massage, sensitive and tongue cleaning and four different brush heads to choose from.
If I’m honest, I don’t actually know which one’s which, I just rotate them so all of the above is covered. I figure if I use them all, something is bound to work….right?! These photos aren’t photoshopped, graded or filtered so you should get a good idea of the natural shade of my dicers.
The other beauty treatment I tried for the first time is microdermabrasion at neoSkin in Richmond. I’ve had peels and vibradermabrasion before, just not microdermabrasion and I have to say I think I am addicted. I don’t know whether my skin type responded particularly well but these photos were taken two days after the facial and there’s no makeup in sight. Nada. Just my bare face.
This is what it does in a nutshell:
“A precise stream of aluminum oxide crystals is directed through a hand piece onto the skin. This, in turn, loosens and exfoliates the top layer of dead cells. The skin is simultaneously vacuumed to reveal a fresher, healthier looking you. Microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layers of the skin and stimulates the growth of collagen to further smooth and improve skin tone and appearance.”
I do have oily skin and felt that my face looked and felt ‘clearer’ after having the microdermabrasion. I don’t exfoliate my own skin with at-home treatments, I think that anything you buy over the counter will just scratch the upper layers rather than removing them. So as a treatment to really get a lovely deep clean and improve the appearance I found this absolutely fabulous.
As one of Melbourne’s most respected skin clinics, neoSKiN offers a range of non-invasive cosmetic treatments from specialised skin programs, facials and microdermabrasion, to IPL, laser hair removal and injectables.
The clinic (as opposed to day spa as they only offer skin treatments) I visited in Richmond was modern, light, airy and felt like you were stepping into a state-of-the-art hotel.
After the microdermabrasion I tried a new offering at the clinic, a neoOxygen facial. During the treatment, nutrient infused oxygen is sprayed evenly over the skin to re-hydrate and heal. The serum is ‘pushed’ if you like into the skin by the pressure of the oxygen, a treatment derived from medical science as a solution to deliver chemotherapy to cancer patients. If I have learnt one thing in writing about beauty over the years it’s that so much of what we see in the industry has its origins in medicine.
Anyhow it was extremely gentle and almost tickled, and I left with a visibly plumper and radiant visage. It may have been the coconut water and fresh berries that were on offer in your my private waiting are, or the massage or the aromatherapy candles. Or all of the above.
So there you go, two beauty treatments tried and tested by yours truly to have your skin and teeth sparkling.
