Have you ever had a hair cleansing ceremony? Shu Uemura are now offering what they call their ‘Deep Ceremony’ at Oscar Oscar salons and I had the pleasure of discovering what it’s all about on a recent visit.
The ceremony can be broken down into sections, so you can experience either a 10 minute ‘Ceremony Moment’ where shampoo and conditioner are applied with a shiatsu massage technique, through to the holistic experience that lasts for 50 minutes where you have a scalp cleansing ceremony with essential oils, the shampoo and conditioner treatment and an upper body shiatsu massage.
Of course I had to have the 50-minute option (!) and I can tell you it’s a complete sensory experience. From the ayurvedic tea through to the essence absolue nourishing oils and the shiatsu massage, you come away feeling and sensing your scalp in a completely new way. It might sound strange but I’ve never really given my scalp that much thought before(why would you?!) but part of the ceremony is getting you to relax into the moment, to really pay attention to the sensation of your hair/scalp being brushed all the while inhaling the essential oils.
