I am very excited to welcome these Sandgrens clogs to my wardrobe all the way from Sweden of course. As ‘Shoes on Tues‘ rolls on I’m still on a quest to find out why we love shoes so much and I’m really enjoying your contributions, so keep them coming.
Historically, few countries have cherished clogs as much as Sweden, which is where Sandgrens Clogs were originally founded as a leather tannery in the mid 1800s.
Sandgrens is considered among the oldest clog brands in the world, if not the oldest and was once also the largest. At their peak we they were making one million pairs of clogs per year, with their biggest market place being America in the 1970s.
After a boom in the 70s and 80s, when the recession hit during the 90s Sandgrens shut it doors, until being re-opened by Christer Carlsson the son of master clog maker Sven Carlsson. Christer bought the entire original clog making equipment, moved production back to Sweden and is now using the same time-honored techniques in transforming the finest leather and wood into high-quality clogs.
I love history in a label and I’m really thrilled to learn about the Sandgrens story. Are you a fan of Swedish clogs? Do you have your own story?
I’m looking forward to wearing these all summer long!
