On my quest to really uncover local Hong Kong based designers, I discovered S.Nine by Susanna Soo located on Hollywood Rd in Central.
Soo founded the label in 2009 after a long stint living in New York and working with the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg and LaRok. Her signature style would have to be the jersey fabric she appropriates to elegant draping that would flatter pretty much any body shape. I loved everything from the body con dresses in scuba fabric through to the evening gowns that are coveted by debutantes and celebrities alike.
The streets surrounding her studio in Central off Hollywood Road and teeming with local life, and it was a real pleasure to spend time in the sanctuary that was her showroom only to wander around the corner and end up in a wet market.
But that’s Hong Kong for you: luxury, beauty and subtlety jammed up against colour, scents and life down every alleyway. Truly one of my favourite cities in the whole world.
