Winner of the Roses Amore Competition is…

Michelle Vamvas with her entry:
“My mum’s best advice came after years of her trying to persuade me to get my driver license. It was on my 32nd birthday; she gave me vouchers for lessons. I know that she would’ve had to save up for a while as she’s on a pension.

She said “Decide that you want this more than you are afraid of it.”

That was it. I started the lessons, realised I loved driving (who knew?!), and I got my license on my first attempt!”

Congratulations Michelle, it was so, sooooo hard to choose a winner of this competition because it could have gone to any or all of you. What I loved about your entry was that your mum wanted to instill independence in her daughter no matter what the age. It also showed that mums will do anything for their children, even when we ‘grow up’ so to speak. It was touching and inspiring and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Here are some of your entries that made me laugh and that stood out as well, they are worth a mention:

Alicia

What a beautiful bunch of roses – the best advice my mother has ever given me is, “always listen to your mother!”

Sarah

The best bit of advice from my mother was when she put a massive sanitary pad in my Year 8 backpack – which of course, conveniently fell out on the school bus (in front of everyone) with a note she’d written on the plastic wrapper –

‘Remember not to stick the sticky bit on your furry bit’

thanks Ma

On cooking rice..

“The water level should be up to your first knuckle, when you touch the rice with the tip of your finger”

Too easy!

My gorgeous and oh-so-wise mother once told me never to take relationships of any sort for granted, from the special one I share with my granny, to the personal conversations which take place at supermarket checkouts – I’ll never forget that, as it’s so important to give kindness to all.

Catrina Murray

“Life is too short for dusting!”
“What do you mean Mum? We must dust!”
“Yes dear, but you should never decline any invitations for fun!”

Carla

The boy who is worth your tears won’t make you cry.

Becs

‘Focus on the finish line and just run, don’t look back or worry about anyone else around you’ – advice for my first school athletics, but which I still live by today!

Kaz

Having fallen out with my sister-in-law and not being over keen on going to see my niece as a result mum wisely told me ‘she is the closest thing you will ever have to a daughter if you don’t have your own, so mend it with your brothers wife’. Mums always know most things.

If you’d like to continue to share your mums best advice then we’d love to hear it!
