The theme of the parade on day one of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week was ‘gala,’ meaning there was supposed to be plenty of drama with sweeping gowns and luxury accessories.
The show opened with Sophie Van den Akker(the face of MSFW) strutting down the catwalk in Richard Nylon millinery surrounded by ballet dancers dressed as native birds. A nice show opener it was then followed by loads of satin, feathers and gowns, gowns and more gowns. I tend to come to this parade each year to see the Christine collection which isn’t actually a designers as much as it is a shop that stocks international labels. The boutique is a Melbourne institution and owner Christine Barrow’s style emanates from every single look that floats down the catwalk. I often sit there and want to be ‘that girl’ walking past me.
