esterday I had the pleasure of visiting the new Fleur Wood store at Melbourne’s GPO in Bourke St. Fleur was there to help launch the shop and it was over coffee that she explained the new fit out to me.
“There are about 180 vintage and antique mirrors in the store sourced from op-shops and antique stores all over NSW hanging on the walls of this shop alone. The feeling that you have ‘found’ something unique is really important to the Fleur Wood philosophy.”
The latest Spring range that Fleur herself says captures something for all ages isn’t all in store as most of the books, soaps, chocolates, jewellery and ‘found objects’ are for sale as well.
“Sometimes people need a gift in a hurry, or they just want to take home part of the lifestyle that we try and get across. Even if it’s just a $30 gift on your way home from work to a party, it’s something special that we hope you won’t find anywhere else,” said Fleur.
That notion that when shopping you have stumbled across something no one else has found is really entrenched in Melbourne culture and the way we like to shop. It will be interesting to see how the shop works from a commercial perspective in a retail space like the GPO with big hitters like Karen Millen and Sass & Bide.
