So this was the situation on the weekend: we borrowed a friend’s cottage and Audi most graciously provided Lady Melbourne with a brand new TT coupe. Without much ado, myself and the Gardner threw a few clothes into a bag and took off for the countryside.
On account of it being mid February and one of the hottest months for summer, all the blackberries were in season and practically falling off the bushes. Wild tiger lilies were in bloom, and glasses of champagne beckoned us onto the veranda of an evening.
Trentham, nestled in what’s called the ‘Well Being’ region of Victoria has a much cooler climate than Melbourne, even though it’s roughly only an hours drive away. There’s a hatted restaurant, antique and vintage shops (as you can see it looks as though I virtually stayed in one!) and a country pub with gardens and the most charming locals you’re bound to meet.
I discovered a vintage lingerie and clothing collector who has her shop built into the side of The Cosmopolitan Hotel, farmers markets, flower gardens and did I mention it’s also wine country?!
