The tradition for Derby Day at the Melbourne Cup Spring Racing Carnival is to wear black and white, and for the most part people get into the spirit.
I was thrilled to spend time in the the G.H. Mumm and the Myer marquee which were both absolutely beautiful but world’s apart with their themes. Mumm with Moulin Rouge and Myer with Austaliana.
Mumm had a troupe of dancers flown in from the Moulin Rouge in Paris, with three performances a day complete with costumes, jewels, headpieces and props also from Paris. I’ve heard that to become a Moulin Rouge dancer you have to go through a grueling selection process and if these dancers were anything to go by they are absolutely at the top of their game.
Myer went with an Australiana theme with bush herb and flower infused catering and beautiful custom made artwork by artist Pamela Dale.
As I’ve previously mentioned on the blog I wore a Will Hope Love black lace dress with a hat I designed and made myself. I wanted a sort of bonnet come mantilla with two huge roses for an ultra feminine effect.
What I’m wearing:
Dress: Will Hope Love
Hat: I made it
Shoes: I customized an el-cheapo pair I bought with braiding and tassels
Bag: Op-shop
Manicure: Miss Fox
Earrings: Kinky Gerlinki
