While I was travelling I decided that I was going to introduce a new, regular segment to Lady Melbourne called ‘Today’s Face.’
I love, love, LOVE beauty and I get asked regularly about what products I used, so I thought to myself, ‘Why not make this a regular feature?’
In this post that will be every Wednesday you are going to find reviews, new products I’ve discovered, what I’m currently wearing, skin and hair care and tutorials on all things beauty related. I can’t wait to start this new segment because as I said, it’s an obsession of mine that I don’t go into too much on the blog but figured after seven years it was about time…right?!
Here goes…
I tried a Lancome BB cream late last year and loved it, so when I visited Sephora I thought I might invest in something new, and perhaps something I couldn’t get my hands on in Melbourne. I tried Smashbox but their bases are yellow and after doing my research I happened upon the brand Tarte. I am now absolutely hooked on the BB tinted treatment 12-hour primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen and would almost give up wearing foundation for it.
In application it is smooth and has a matt finish, but as my skin errs on the oily side of things after about an hour it looks lovely and dewy- no loose powder needed. I love that it has an SPF 30 and primer included as well. At this stage of my makeup application I always put a bit of paw paw ointment on my lips and this one I’m trying is from Natralus. I usually use Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment but this is proving to be a competitive alternative.
While I was away a box arrived from a new Melbourne makeup salon Vivian Ashworth. They sell Beauty is Life products among other things, and in this post I’m trying the Beauty is Life Eyeshadow in Boudoir. It’s lovely and matt and while I haven’t applied it heavily in this look, I think it would build up nicely for a deeper, evening look. The pigment is lovely and strong, just how I like my eye shadows.
I thought it was time I hopped on the NARS bandwagon while I was in New York having avoided it my entire make-up wearing adult life.
I headed straight for their world renowned ‘Orgasm’ blush only to find that it didn’t suit my skin tone, having too much gold as part of its base. Instead, I picked up ‘Sin,’ which is a lovely dusty rose affair and I’ve been wearing it almost everyday since I bought it. The consistency is the perfect blend of pigment and shimmer and I am now well and truly on the aforementioned NARS bandwagon.
Another gift from Vivian Ashworth was the Beauty is Life lipstick in Kingdom which is lovely and creamy and has great staying power.
Other basic beauty tools that are in my makeup bag are L’Oreal Double Extend mascara that I’ve been using for years and years and years. I have tried so many others but always come back to this one. An oldy but a goody in my book!
I bought new brushes from Sephora but left them in New York, so in this post I’ve used this Natio Powder Brush which I would highly recommend for light contouring. It’s excellent quality and comes from a local beauty brand which is even better.
For my eyerbrows I’m using a Sephora crayon, but I have about 5 different brands that I use so you’ll come to see quite a bit in that department!
So there you have it folks, the first installment in what I hope will be many on all things beauty that come across Lady Melbourne’s desk!
Did you enjoy it? What would you like to see reviewed or explained?
