What is a ‘Rockstar’ manicure?
I needed something with serious ‘wow’ factor during MSFW and thought what better place to start than with glitter? Enter the ‘Rockstar’ manicure.
I usually approach them with an idea (which more often than not is what ever Lana Del Rey has on her finger tips that week) and then between myself, Victoria (the Miss Fox) and who ever happens to be doing my nails that day we come up with the result. I had originally imagined that I would have a dip-dye effect for this manicure, with the glitter dark on the tips, fading to a pale pink. It wasn’t really going to work with this particular glitter as the pieces are so large, and Victoria suggested we use it as an overall effect. I think the results are stunning!
Now for some F.A.Qs that usually arise when I post about my nails!
Q: What is a ‘Rockstar Manicure’?
A: ‘Rockstar’ refers to the technique used of embedding glitter into the product(in this case shellac) used for decoration. It has nothing to do with Courtney Love, although I could see her rocking this manicure!
Q: Are those your real nails?
A: Yes, absolutely! I’ve never had acrylics done in my life. As the shellac is so hard it allows my real nails to grow and then be shaped into the point.
Q: Are they gels?
A: No, it’s layers of Rockstar glitter with about 3 top coats of clear shellac on top.
Q: How long does it last?
A: Depending on how fast your nails grow and home maintenance, I’d say 3-5 weeks. My nails grow super fast and I don’t like seeing the exposed nail bed as they grow out. That usually happens for me personally around the 2-3 week mark.
Q: Does it chip or come off?
A: No. The shellac hardens under UV light and once it’s ‘set,’ it doesn’t budge. Literally. For this manicure we used shellac as the top coat, but Miss Fox currently recommend Artistic as an alternative to Shellac as the brand uses LED lights to set the manicure as opposed to UV light.
